History

Minster Fuels was established back in the sixties as an independent fuel distribution company that operated in the counties of Dorset, Hampshire and parts of Wiltshire.

The company concentrated its efforts in the domestic market, as gas heating had not yet taken a foothold in Minster’s mainly rural territory.

At that time Minster Fuels was an independent distributor, which purchased the bulk of its fuel requirements from Gulf Oil (now withdrawn from the UK market). Later, Minster Fuels was to become the biggest branded Gulf distributor in the U.K.

Minster Fuels has undergone many changes in its growth, at times being a “Branded” distributor and eventually back to being an independent. Currently this is the way in which we believe we can best serve customers. Various other businesses were added to form the company as it is to day under the umbrella of Jones Distribution Ltd.

Minster Fuels operates from five locations, West Moors in Dorset which is also the Head Office, Grimstone which is north-west of Dorchester, Southampton and Theale just outside Reading where it also incorporates John Flint & Son.

In the early days deliveries were based at Micheldever near Winchester and Wimborne near Bournemouth. However, Micheldever Oil Terminal was closed in 1995 and the John Flint and Minster fuels operations were re-housed in the Murco Oil Terminal at Theale near Reading.

A new depot was built in the early eighties at West Moors near Bournemouth to replace the Wimborne location.
